Thanks for the good thoughts and be patient with me...I'll return in a while.

First, I want to thank everyone for your nice comments and well wishes regarding the scary fire stuff here in Texas.  It has been the oddest year, weather wise and in other ways as well.  I know we are not the only ones who deal with fires and little rain, but I will say that this has been the worst year I can remember.  I'm a native Texan and completely used to hot weather in the summer and the seasonal ups and downs of rain in our area.  However, we've experienced utter craziness.  I do have to remind myself that my grandparents lived in the Dust Bowl of the Texas Panhandle and so these cycles of weather will occur.

Sadly, so many people lost their homes and the Bastrop State Park is just devastated.  Gone really and it was a lovely park.  No rain still in any forecast and so our drought will continue.  Living much further out in the countryside has given me a new perspective on a lot of things.  I'll share some of that in a few weeks, but suffice it to say that we are still in the hot box and I should buy stock in Bath and Body Works due to the amount of lotion that I have to slather on.

I'm going to be out of town off and on for a few weeks, but I hope to be able to get back into the swing of blogging by about the second week of October or so.  My enforced technology drought has been frustrating, interesting, and revealing in many ways.  I'm pondering some thoughts about that.  When I'm able to post again on a regular basis, I'll share pictures of the new house with furniture.  I also want to tell about the nice library I joined, share some new restaurants we've visited, and give some thoughts about basically moving to a much more laid back area - a small town atmosphere, even though we are several miles outside of the small town of Georgetown, Texas.  I also want to tell you about urban living, Texas style, and show where we were in the between time of apartment dwelling.  It was a little surreal.  And yes, I'm reading a bit.  Mostly books I've already enjoyed though.  No reviews to follow on those, but I might talk about authors or series that I've revisited.

Oh, I did read a fabulous, fabulous entry into probably my favorite mystery series of all.  It was A Trick of the Light by Louise Penny.  Sigh.  Such a wonderful book.  Louise deserves all the success she is getting with this new Three Pines novel.  If you haven't read this series, you are truly missing out.

Take care and I'm likely to be seen around the blogs posting comments again.  I've missed it a lot!!

  1. One of those strange coincidences--I was just thinking about you and wondering if you were OK. This drought has had devastating effects. Along with others, I'm praying for rain. Take care, Kay.

  2. So glad to 'see' you back! I'm so behind or I would have sent you an email. A baby who crawls is somehow even more demanding than one who isn't. I knew that would be the case in the abstract but the reality is kicking my butt :)
I'll have to look on the map and find Georgetown. Take care of yourself.

  7. SO good to hear from you via the blog. I look forward to all those subjects you mentioned. You know how they say that everything is bigger in Texas? Well, I love the Texas version of small town. I looked up the population of Georgetown - 2 years ago it was almost 51,000. There are about 2200 in my small town. :<)))

Every time it rains here, as it's doing today, I think of the folks in Texas and wish I could send you some of it.

  10. I'm glad you're OK and planning a return to blogging. It sounds like a difficult time down there. I wish we could send you our rain. We're having too much of it. Fires and drought are scary. Take care and I hope things look up for you soon.

  11. I'm glad you made it through the fires safely. I have been in Austin for 10 years, and this is the worst summer I have experienced. I think it has all left me feeling a bit glum. Everyone seems to be wishing for several days of strong rains, but then we will be dealing with flash floods. So, we can't really win.
