Synopsis:
Milford, Connecticut, is a quiet, orderly place to live, a good place to bring up kids. But people are beginning to feel the bite of financial hard times. Even decent, normally law-abiding folks have started getting a little creative when it comes to making ends meet.
For Glen Barber, the recession has been particularly bad for his construction business, especially after a mysterious fire destroyed one of his buildings. But Glen’s troubles are about to escalate to a whole new level. His wife Sheila has her own plans for getting them out of their financial jam, plans that seem to involve a secret network of Milford’s wives and are about to pay off big-time.
And that’s when the accident happens…
Suddenly it looks as if the neighbors’ ‘get rich quick’ schemes are more likely to get you dead. Glen – no longer able to trust even the people he loves – must risk everything to find out what’s lurking behind the town’s idyllic façade.
Because some accidents aren’t accidents at all.
The Accident is the first book I've read by Linwood Barclay. I liked it, more toward the end than the middle. I got a bit frustrated with the protagonist, Glen. He came very close to acting foolish and reckless, in my opinion, especially for the surviving parent of an 8-year-old daughter. However, I forgave him as the plot thickened and things got really tense at the climax. This story would probably film very well. It has the pace of a thriller movie. All in all, I liked it and will be searching out other books by this author.
By the way, this is the first of my "new" book talk style. I'm including a plot summary from the author's website. Is that important to you guys or would you just prefer a short paragraph from me and a link? Speak up and give me your thoughts, please.

I have no preference to the format you choose --this works.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the audio book of this one and thought it was fun to listen to.
I've never read anything by Barclay. This sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteThis is a new author to me but the story sounds good. I like the style of this book talk, but I like all the ways you talk about books. You give us your opinion of the book and, for me, that's what's important.
ReplyDeleteI like the blurb from the publisher. If it's not too much work, I'd like to see you include it. I do. :)
ReplyDeleteNever read anything by Barclay. Might have to give him a try.
I read one Barclay book years ago and really liked it. I picked up a few in the past year, this onew included I think, and look forward to giving him another try.
ReplyDeleteI like having a recap in the review, whether you wrote it or not. Sometimes I skim it, read your thoughts and then if I'm interested I go back and really read about it :) Whatever way you do it will be great, Kay.
I love the plot summary to get a bit of an idea of what the book is about. I love your format!!
ReplyDeleteI've read 4 by Barclay and this one was my least favorite. I still loved his fast-paced plot and twists, though.
