This little owl banged into our bedroom window before dawn the other day. Really, really hard. So hard we thought the window might have cracked. It didn't. However, we got up to see what made the noise and there we found this little owl. Sitting on the ground below the window. Stunned, I suspect. We got the camera and my husband took the picture very stealthily. Now, in case you were worried, the bird was gone within just a little while - by the time the sun came up anyway.
I wondered whether Dumbledore needed to contact me through Owl Post. Do you think? (In case you've lived totally incommunicado in the last few years, that's a reference to the Harry Potter books, in which owls deliver their magical mail.) I did not find a letter from Hogwarts. Sigh.

Oh goodness! Hope he didn't have any internal injuries! He sure is cute!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we get to see owls nearly enough. Certainly I don't. Glad the little fellow seemed ok.
ReplyDeletePoor little owl! Obviously not quite up to bringing any Owl Post.
ReplyDeleteWe've had quite a few birds flying into our windows and have just got some bird stickers to put on the windows - hopefully that will deter them.
I'm so very sad that you didn't find your letter from Dumbledore!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that he wasn't hurt...I love owls!!
That's not something you see everyday! Glad the window and the owl were okay.
ReplyDeletePoor thing! We've had small finches fly into our windows but never something big like an owl. I thought they had night time flying sensors like bats? I'm amazed he didn't break the window.
ReplyDeletePoor little fellow! I'm glad to hear he was ok, but sorry to hear you didn't receive a letter! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo sad, hope it was just a temporary setback for the little guy.
ReplyDeleteDear Kay,
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! You would not believe this (we must be on the same wavelength) but go and look at my latest post! WHO would believe it? ;-)
What an adorable little guy! So glad he was only stunned!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is awesome! I have never seen an owl on the loose like that....intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
You know, when we heard that large bump against the window, we thought it was probably a bat. There are lots of bats in our area. In fact, a bunch of them live in downtown Austin under the Congress Ave. Bridge. People come a see them take to the skies at sunset. Anyway, when we got to where we could see the ground outside the window, there sat that little owl. Have no idea what kind. I've never seen an owl in our area, but I guess they are here. I think he was OK because it didn't take long for him to disappear. Don't know why he got mixed up and hit the window.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, take a look at Kay G.'s post from yesterday - http://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2012/01/aware-and-arabia-mountain.html
Wow, so glad you got to take a photo of him before he flew off.
ReplyDeletePoor little guy. He looks stunned. A few weeks ago I had to take a finch to the wildlife rehab center after she hit the back window and was still stunned a few hours later.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a Screech Owl, but I'm not positive. I don't see owls that often.
So sad about the lack of a letter from Hogwarts!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the owl was okay though. It's always a treat to see them since they're so stealthy.
So much for Hogwarts calling, but the Owl is very cool. It's big one, I found a baby owl once, and that was the only one I've ever seen. Pretty crazy that the owl would crash into your window. Book Savvy Babe
ReplyDeletePoor thing! I hope it wasn't the Owl Post!
ReplyDeleteAw... I always feel badly when birds knock their senses loose. It's startling inside the house, too! Cute owl.
ReplyDeleteWe had an owl appear in the tree just off our front porch several years ago. We decided the 4th of July noise probably scared him out of his nest. He stuck around for a few days and then took off. I love owls and hear them hooting at night. Did you ever read the book Owl Moon?
ReplyDeleteA letter from Dumbledore would have been nice, but I don't think those owls let a little thing like a window deter them.
ReplyDeleteI hope the owl was ok.
Poor little owl. Hope he is safe and sound.
ReplyDelete:)
That's cool! I don't think we have owls around here but many a bird has crashed into my windows before. I'm glad he wasn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the little guy was ok!
ReplyDeleteHa. I love that you thought of the Harry Potter reference. Cute owl and the opportunity of a lifetime to find one up close. Glad he's okay. Here's Mine
ReplyDeletePoor owl...but glad he is ok..
ReplyDeleteHere is my Saturday
Snapshot post!
I'm sure your letter with come with the next post. Keep up hope.
ReplyDeleteCute little guy! We have blue jays who try to flew into our patio door all the time - silly birds! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little thing. Yeah, he was probably stunned. But if he managed to fly off a little later he was probably okay. Lesson learned, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he dropped his magical mail. Check the grounds. :)
Oh he is so cute!! But I hope that poor little guy wasn't lost and confused. Maybe keeping the mouse away, though! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie. We have birds of many kids run into our back window, but nothing as cool as an owl.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the mail. That would have been way cool :)
How cute! Glad to hear he flew off and was okay! Sorry he didn't leave you a letter!
ReplyDeleteI think it must be a Weasly owl!!! They were always having delivery problems!! Thanks for sharing a spur of the moment memory!
