I haven't participated for quite a while and in fact, when I was considering deleting my blog, took out all my personal photos. So, this is a new beginning in that regard. Several have posted family photos from time to time and I have always meant to. Here's a bit of my family life:
This is a picture of the tea cart that sits in my dining room. It belonged to my maternal grandmother and the dishes that are on the top shelf were hers as well. When she died, my mother told my sister, brother and I to select any of her things that we wished to have. I always loved this tea set and the little cart it lived on. I'm not sure whether she originally had a full set of the dishes, but these were all that were left when she died. I'm very pleased to have a large dining room in this house and this piece is perfect in one corner by the front window.
And here we have a picture of my maternal grandparents. The tea set and cart belonged to this grandmother. I think this was their wedding picture perhaps. Not positive about that, but I have a picture taken some years later that includes my mother as a little girl. My grandfather had less hair in it and he had no hair by the time I came along. Not really sure what the whole pompadour look to his hair is about. It's kind of funny looking. My grandmother had quite the stylish hat didn't she? They married in 1921, I think. She would have been 19 and he was 21. They both grew up in Oklahoma and then moved to Texas after they married. I was lucky enough to have them until they became great-grands and both lived a good long life - he until he was 83 and she until 93.

I really like seeing family photos. And how nice that you have this tea set. Your grandfather's hair was amazing! My Snapshots this week are old family photos too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty tea set and cart. I could use something like that!
ReplyDeleteOld photos always look wonderful. So much history there. I have an old photo of my grandparents that I really cherish too.
ReplyDeleteHello Kay!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! What a beautiful teacart with those beautiful dishes, I would treasure it always.
And that photo of your grandparents! How wonderful that you have such a photo of them when they were so young and how lucky that you were able to have them for so long. My maternal grandmother died when I was eight, but I remember how good she was with flowers and how she loved to give away "cuttings" to help other gardens grow...a good memory.
Gorgeous tea set and cart. These are the legacies with stories attached that give us warm feelings. Love the photos of your grandparents, too. I have some photos surrounding me in my office that I'm tempted to take down and scan someday...photos of my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and I love the look of your blog!
Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT and
MY WEBSITE
Your grandfather's haircut seems like it might be in style today, but it's hard to imagine a man then choosing a cutting edge haircut. Love the tea set and cart. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that you have something you loved to remember them by. That's the best way to keep them around, I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tea set and cart to always remember your grandmother by. I have so many wonderful old photo treasurers from my side and my husband's side of the family. I must admit none of the gentlemen in my old photos have a hair style quite like your grandfather's! Priceless!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure to own! I love the photo. His hair reminds me of an overgrown pineapple cut.
ReplyDeleteI know...Texas had it hard last summer. We'll keep our fingers crossed for moisture all over!! I love old family photos and family keepsakes. Great Pictures.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you decided to join in! I think everyone needs a break from blogging now and then.
ReplyDeleteThat tea set is beautiful! I was curious about the pompadour hair look too. :) My sisters and I each got a teacup from sets that have been in the family and split up as the generations of girls grew. I don't have any girls so mine may go to a granddaughter someday.
The tea set is lovely! And so nice that you have room to display it. We have some pretty antique pieces from my husband's side of the family but sadly not much from mine.
ReplyDeleteThat hairstyle must have been popular for men. My family has some old photos dating back to the 1920s and several of the men have that style. I'm sure our future relatives will look at our photos and giggle at what we thought was stylish.
Nice to see you back btw.
Very pretty tea set and cart. I also have an antique tea cart that was passed down to me from my great grandmother, I absolutely love it. Book Savvy Babe
ReplyDeleteHow neat to have her tea set! Your grandparents made such a good looking couple!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to share a little bit of your family with your readers.
ReplyDeleteI do that on my blog too.

I love seeing the old family photos and am thinking of sharing some of mine as a way of participating in this meme. Your tea set is lovely and an heirloom to be treasured. Have to say that is definitely a strange hair style your grandfather has! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love these old family photos. The tea service is also very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI loved it that you added the photo of your grandmother and grandfather. I love looking at old photos.
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful photos...The tea set is very pretty and the picture of your grandparents is so nice...What a nice remembrance to have.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
I love seeing old family photos. I love the teapots. Not sure about the hair, though. I'm sure it was all the rage back then. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe cart and dishes are beautiful. They make lovely remembrances of your grandparents.
ReplyDeleteLove that you have the photo and the heirlooms! I always wonder what the old pieces would say if they could speak.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cart and tea set. That's wonderful that you have an heirloom like that. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour grandfather is indeed sporting an interesting hairstyle! Was he involved in the military?
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about this post. The history behind the lovely tea cart and pots and then that awesome photo!
ReplyDeleteWow! You've got some great looking grandparents. ;) I love little things like this that get passed down from generation to generation. My mom recently received a tiny little iron that I think she said was used by her great-grandmother? Must have been first generation in the states!
ReplyDeletePS--can I tell you how happy I am that you're back? :)
I like the pattern on the tea set. It is really quite bold. Where was it made?
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love her hat!
Dearie, were you writing this at 3 am?!
I love old family photos. She is quite stylish and I love her tea set. You are lucky to have it. Your grandfather's hair is funny but it must have been the style of the day.
