Waiting on Wednesday - Restless in the Grave

This event is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we are eagerly anticipating. My choice for this week is:

Publisher: Minotaur
Available on February 14th
19th in the Kate Shugak series

Dana Stabenow teams up two of her most beloved characters, Aleut private investigator Kate Shugak and Alaska state trooper Liam Campbell, in the same story for the first time.
Alaska aviation entrepreneur Finn Grant died in the fiery crash of his Piper Super Cub. Someone sabotaged his engine, and virtually everyone in southwestern Alaska has a motive, including his betrayed wife, his bullied children, and Liam’s wife, bush pilot Wyanet Chouinard. With few places to turn, Liam asks his former mentor Niniltna post commander Sergeant Jim Chopin, for help, and Jim quickly brings Kate onto the case.
Working undercover as—of all things—a waitress at Bill’s Bar and Grill, Kate learns over beer and burgers that Grant’s business had expanded meteorically over the last two years. After buying the closed Air Force base south of town from the federal government at a bargain-basement price, he became a fixed-base operator running his fishing, hunting, and flight-seeing business, servicing planes flying through the area, and most interestingly and lucratively, getting into the air freight business. But what kind of freight was he moving, and where?
The answers involve Kate in her most challenging case to date, one that starts with murder and quickly sprawls into a much larger conspiracy ranging from the darkest family secrets to treason and beyond.

I've loved this series for years and years.  Kate and I have gone through some tough times.  I have meant to read the Liam Campbell series for a while, but just never got around to it.  I'm intrigued to know that Chopper Jim knows Liam Campbell.  Chopper Jim is one of my favorite characters.  So, have a listen to Dana Stabenow talk about her new book here.  I'm sure looking forward to it.

  1. I remember a post you did a while ago about Dana Stabenow's series. Can you believe I meant to start reading these books, but still haven't found the time? Seeing this post makes me think I need to get on it.

  4. This does sound like a fascinating read. I'm currently listening to A FATAL THAW by Dana Stabenow and enjoying it very much. This is my first time 'reading' one of her books but it won't be the last. I'll add BREAKING THE SPINE to my wish list.

  9. I encourage everyone to try this series. It's a good one if you are doing the USA challenge since it's set in Alaska. Gives a good view of lots of different aspects of Alaskan life.

  10. I really enjoy your Wednesday posts Kay. You have a wonderful knack for finding gppd new books. Again, this is an author I'm unfamiliar with but who sounds terrific. I've been sitting here watching all the videos. My favorite is the story of the earthquake. She definitely knows how to tell a story. I'm off to find her books.

  11. Margot, thanks so much! My goal with the Wednsday posts is to point out some upcoming mystery books that people might not know about. I try to make them close to publish date. That way, if someone is interested, they don't have to wait too long. It's just my way of pointing out books that I'm interested in and sharing that with everyone else.
